As you may have heard, the American multinational corporation, Microsoft will grant everyone who’s running windows 7, 8, and 8.1 a free update of Windows 10 on release. Even pirated copies!

What you may NOT have heard, is that this update for the pirated copies will have NO LICENSE. As a result, users of such operating systems will not get support and will face other limitations.

“With Windows 10, although non-genuine PCs may be able to upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade will not change the genuine state of the license,” as mentioned from an interview by VentureBeat, a spokesman from Microsoft. “Non-genuine Windows is not published by Microsoft. It is not properly licensed or supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner.”

“We will provide a mechanism for non-genuine Windows 10 PC devices to ‘get genuine’ via the new Windows Store, whether they are upgraded versions of Windows or purchased,” a representative from Microsoft mentioned. “We will have details on this as we get closer to launch.”

As we see it, Microsoft’s game plan is to maximize it Windows 10 distribution to PC’s and Mobile devices for free and will monetize it by selling subscriptions, softwares, games and other services. Microsoft even stated that the operating system update will address billions of devices including devices belonging to the “internet-of-things” such as your typical daily gadgets and wearable electronics.

Microsoft Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries with 110+ languages.

Great move from Microsoft. It’s the only way to unify all of their users in a single philosophy:

    – Win7 users will update, therefore, now they will finally have the Store. which will expand the Windows ecosystem.
    – Win8 and 8.1 Pro users will upgrade to get rid of the half-baked interface while keeping the OS performance.
    – Everybody will have Win10 and they can push all the upcoming software and services.
